Introduction to Air India
Air India – India’s national carrier completed 70 years of services to London in June 2018. The iconic first flight on a Lockheed Constellation took off from Mumbai on June 8 and landed in London via Cairo and Geneva on June 10, 1948, with just 42 passengers on board, including some Indian Nawabs and Maharajas.
The UK market is among the airline’s busiest sectors, recently added three direct flights between Heathrow to Bengaluru a city in Southern India and India’s IT powerhouse. The Bengaluru flight provides convenient connections to the cities of Hyderabad, Kochi and Kolkata in both directions.
Air India currently operates a total of 34 services per week from UK with Boeing 787 Dreamliner ; Twice a day to Delhi, a daily service to Mumbai, 4 times a week to Ahmedabad and thrice weekly to Bengaluru from Heathrow besides thrice weekly direct services each to Delhi and Amritsar from Birmingham.
In the UK, it is running at full capacity at Heathrow Airport and is looking at expanding from Birmingham and Luton to other Indian cities as the demand from Indian diaspora continues to fuel its growth.
Air India’s state of the art Boeing 787 offers 18 Seats in Business Class and 238 in Economy with best in class seat pitch, mood lighting, cabin pressure and ambience.
Air India has recently launched its Business Lite promotion that offers upgrades from Economy to Business where passengers can bid to purchase upgrades and avail of the excellent business class product with fully Flat Bed, Gourmet Meals and drinks, in a relaxed spacious environment.
